Activision’s popular Call of Duty franchise will be breaking into the next console generation early with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Before the game releases in November, players have gotten the chance to try it out thanks to the most-downloaded beta in Call of Duty history, but it turns out there were deeper secrets to discover in the Black Ops Cold War beta beyond its gameplay mechanics. In a post to the r/blackopscoldwar subreddit yesterday, Reddit user Neur0r pointed out strings of numbers hidden in background images around the beta menu....

Treyarch may have delayed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s first season of content until later in the month, but it’s still preparing players for the season’s arrival with an update than went live earlier today. Said update also brings a number of quality-of-life additions to the game but, unfortunately, it sounds as if it has brought a new problem specifically to some Xbox players. One player, MolyneuxLuke, on Twitter revealed that after updating their version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on the Xbox, they received a message telling them that their Blackout Trial has ended, thus denying them access to the Blackout mode, multiplayer, and Zombies, and that they need to purchase the full game....

Every new map implemented in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare goes through a slow process of patches and updates. Fans are very quick to find flaws within the design of the map and while some players may report issues, others simply exploit them. Activision and Sledgehammer Games are hoping to spark a resurgence in the Call of Duty franchise this holiday season. A new 7GB texture pack for Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops Cold War has been released by Activision for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The pack is recommended for displays of 1440p and above, so base last-gen consoles will not be able to leverage it. As pointed out by VGC, this is the fifth texture pack that has been released for Warzone, with previous ones targeted towards weapons and character models....

Call of Duty fans with an attachment to the series’ Zombies mode have recently been given some heartbreaking news about one of its most prominent voice actors. As revealed in a post from his family, Call of Duty Zombies voice actor Tom Kane has suffered a major stroke. The actor has a lengthy career in voice acting, playing many roles in video games, television, and movies. Kane played Yoda in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the actor also playing Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi....

Out there somewhere, in some land of theoretical games that should be made, there’s an Assassin’s Creed RPG that perfectly marries the progression and abilities system seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (as well as AC Origins and AC Odyssey) with the classic stealth elements of the franchise. AC Valhalla does attempt this by bringing back insta-kill Hidden Blades, some elements of social stealth, and more, but it still falls into the same trap of being more open-world RPG than anything else....

The modding community is still incredibly active today, with many modern games like Stardew Valley frequently modified by fans. Ben Affleck is returning to 1970s Hollywood for his next directorial effort. As the filmmaker who won a Best Picture Oscar for Argo in 2013, a movie that briefly crossed paths with Tinseltown at the height of Star Wars fever in the late ‘70s, Affleck already knows well the setting of The Big Goodbye, which is being developed at Paramount Pictures.
