The SX50 is the full package deal. We’re impressed with its performance as a whole, even if the 24-1200mm equivalent lens is the obvious headline-grabbing feature. Such a lens means some compromise in quality and maximum aperture terms, but the excellent image stabilisation system and quality low-ISO images can’t be argued with. The SX50 is pushing the limits of what’s possible from a compact camera, and just about gets away with it too. It’s hard not to be impressed, despite some obvious limitations.
