Call of Duty’s Zombies mode is one of the most popular modes throughout Call of Duty, so much so that people would buy Call of Duty games just to play Zombies. It’s the iconic mode of Treyarch’s Call of Duty, with even Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer doing their own spin on the game.
Every Zombies map has a room you start in. Some are big, some are small, some are fantastic, and others you try to get out of as fast as possible. Let’s take a look at the best starting rooms Call of Duty players can find themselves in while playing Zombies!
10 Revelations
The last new Zombies map of Black Ops 3, Revelations’ starting room has a lot to offer. The Quick Revive Machine can be powered on thanks to the Corruption Engine being in the room. There’s a GobbleGum Machine as well to help stay alive for longer. There’s even a Mystery Box location to be used in tandem with GobbleGum. The starting room of Revelations is one of the two original locations on the map (the other being inside the Apothicon) and it’s one of the best areas on the map.
9 Shangri-La
While Shangri-La is widely considered to be one of the hardest Zombies maps, it also has one of the best starting rooms. It’s easy to manipulate drops thanks to the monkeys, making it easy to get a Nuke or Insta-Kill depending on the situation.
There’s also a box location to be used, which is especially useful on the Black Ops 3 version thanks to GobbleGum. The layout of the Shangri-La is starting room is far from an easy one, however, it’s one that rewards good gameplay handsomely. Both versions of Shangri-La are great, and they both make for fun starting room challenges.
8 Gorod Krovi
Gorod Krovi is one of the coolest maps in all of Zombies. They’re dragons flying around, with robotic zombies constantly rolling in. The starting room gives you enough room to run around in, but not enough to ever feel completely comfortable. If you get lucky with your challenges, you can even get a free perk from the rewards, as well as an L4 Siege and Max Ammo. You have access to a GobbleGum machine as well, making starting room challenges much more fun and varied. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the starting room of Gorod Krovi is challenging but never unfair.
7 Kino Der Toten
One of the most iconic maps in the entire series also has one of the best starting rooms. Kino der Toten has a fair bit of room to run around in, with exactly four windows to give a max party a window each. On the Black Ops 3 version, it even comes with a GobbleGum machine. The starting room includes a box location as well, allowing for any of the guns to be obtained (on Black Ops 3 anyway). Kino der Toten is a perfect mix, it’s not difficult but it’s far from easy. It’s incredibly balanced in that regard, making for a great starting room.
6 Der Riese/The Giant
Der Riese (or The Giant on Black Ops 3) is one of the most important maps that have ever been released. The first time Pack-A-Punch which has become one of the most iconic parts about Zombies. The starting room is great as well.
Der Riese gives you a ton of room to run around in, making it moderately easy to train inside of it. However, it’s small enough to where if you mess up once, you’ll be going down. If you’re doing a starting room challenge that’s game over, as Quick Revive isn’t inside of it.
5 Ascension
The first Black Ops 1 DLC map, Ascension offers the best starting room in that entire game. The mechanism in the center can kill Zombies, which can help as the rounds get higher. However, if you don’t watch your head it’ll take you out as well. On Solo, you get access to Quick Revive in case you go down, and in the Black Ops 3 version, you get a GobbleGum. The only thing you might find annoying is that since you won’t turn on power if you’re doing a starting room challenge, you’ll have to deal with a black and white game the whole time.
4 Buried
The best starting room on Black Ops 2, Buried is one that you’ve probably spent the most time on. That’s because if you gain enough points before leaving you’ll be able to purchase a nifty LSAT LMG wall buy. The starting room itself is difficult, as there’s not a lot of space to move around in. If you have the Ph.D. Flopper perma-perk, you can utilize it to deal damage by dolphin diving off the staircase. Buried is unique in the fact that after you leave the starting room, you can never actually return to it, incentivizing staying in there as long as possible.
3 Zetsubou No Shima
Zetsubou No Shima is one of the most controversial maps in terms of liking or hating it, but no matter what side of the coin you fall on, the starting room is fantastic. There’s no Quick Revive if you’re doing a Solo starting room challenge, but you do have access to a GobbleGum machine.
You do have a plot to plant as well as a bucket with some water in it. This allows you to grow weapons not normally available in the room such as a KRM and even a rocket launcher.
2 Tag Der Toten
The last map of both Black Ops 4 and the Aether storyline, Tag der Toten has one of the best starting rooms out there. It’s one of the largest and most open ones, making it possible to get to high rounds easier on it. It’s even large enough for the Anywhere But Here Elixir to be used to get you out of a pickle. The starting room makes it easy to avoid stepping in the freezing water, and there’s enough space for two players to train easily. With access to Specialist weapons as well it makes it one of the best starting room experiences.
1 IX
IX is not just one of the best Black Ops 4 maps, it has by far the best starting room out of any Zombies map. It’s a large colosseum arena, and one of the best atmospheres. If you’re doing a starting room challenge, you can even get a Pack-A-Punch’d Strife pistol, which is a wall weapon in the same room to have a constant stream of ammo. If you have Crowd Affinity, you get rewards from the crowd, which can range from Nukes to Insta-Kills, as well as Specialist recharges. The fire makes it challenging, but the space makes it balanced, making for the best starting room.
