This fall has been the season for new gaming releases. From Destiny 2 to Assassin’s Creed: Origins, you have likely been busy spending countless hours on your favorite console. Just when you thought it was over, and you were about to get your social life back, Call of Duty decides to go back to their roots and releases Call of Duty: WWII. Much like Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty as a franchise was going through some severe growing pains.

The futuristic Halo-like style of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare did not go over well with everyone. So, if you are an AAA title, what do you do? You likely go back to what put you on the map in the first place. Call of Duty: WWII was developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision, and it takes players to some of the most famous locations during this historic time.

The locations and attire give away the time, but let’s not kid ourselves, players care about one thing and one thing only: weapons. Some of the most iconic guns from WWII are promised to be a part of this game, and it doesn’t disappoint. From the legendary “Tommy Gun” to the PPSH, gamers can expect to see actual guns used during the war.

While that is an excellent feature in this COD: WWII, gamers care about which guns are going to make them unbeatable. Well, we have you covered! Now, everyone has various play styles and uses different weapons to compliment those methods, so keep that in mind when taking a look at this list. Here are the eight best weapons in COD: WWII, and the seven worst.

15 Best – BAR Stands For “Best Assault Rifle!”

Alright, it takes a little maneuvering to get this gun. If you pre-ordered a digital copy of the game, you likely received a Prestige token which can be the key to grabbing this gun. The BAR did not show up in the Beta, so players are just now realizing its potential. This gun rates high on the two stats that are important for any COD game, and for those who love assault rifles: fire rate and damage. Range and accuracy are also not too far behind. In a recent YouTube video by All-A, he showed himself mowing through enemies in multiplayer with this gun. The BAR also allows players to accurately line up their sites to the target, which makes missing less of a possibility.

14 Worst – Not All Is Grand About The M1 Garand

This is a popular gun, and a lot of people are wowed by its power, which makes total sense. It is likely a two-shot kill, but there are some quirks about this gun that may make it difficult to realize its true potential. This weapon can be tough to aim, a no-no for multiplayer situations. Also, staying true to the historic nature of the gun, reloading it creates this dinging sound that others can quickly pick up on. It is a semi-automatic rifle with eight rounds, which means players will likely have to reload frequently. This will easily let enemies know that you are in a vulnerable spot. So the cons may outweigh the pros for the M1 Garand. Again, a play style that is not on the move a lot may compliment this gun, but players have to be sure they seek a place of security when reloading.

13 Best – The Fastest Firing Assault Rifle In The Game

So, this is a lesson to not always place all bets on the in-game menus. Developers may have thrown some surprises in there that contradict the descriptions that come with each gun. Through a recent comparison test on YouTube, the M1941 Johnson gun is faster than the STG 44 even though the latter has a higher rating on in-game menus. It has decent recoil so aiming should not be a problem, which is a huge deal for a weapon with a significant firing rate. It is also a lesser-known gun which means those who use this can surprise enemies with its fire rate. Many people are going to stick with popular firearms as people continue to explore COD: WWII. Step away from the crowd with a quick firing gun that many will not see coming.

12 Worst – You Can Pass On The PPSH-41

This entry will be a controversial one. During the Beta and early playthroughs of the final game, many are in love with the PPSH-41. It is a famous gun and one that people knew they wanted to use in the game. However, the stats and play experience do not lie. The PPSH-41 is probably the third best performing submachine gun and does not have any remarkable qualities beyond its iconic history. It is a bit average and does a few things well instead of ruling on one or two essential features. The fire rate is high, but the range and recoil are lacking for this gun compared to more capable SMGs. The PPSH-41 is not necessarily terrible, but in comparison to the Type 100 (which is not the greatest) and Waffe 28, its performance is not as sharp in actual gameplay.

11 Best – Don’t Sleep On The Waffe 28

It is amazing how certain guns will overshadow others. Whether because of how aesthetically pleasing it looks or because of good feelings they may have had for it in another game. This can leave guns like the Waffe 28 out in the cold. This a close-range weapon, which may not be everyone’s flavor, but it is incredibly overpowering in situations where you are right in front of another player. The fire rate is insane, and if players add a steady aim to handle the recoil, players can keep the fire going without having to stop and reload to make up for missed shots. Since a lot of multiplayer situations will put people in close quarters, this type of gun works flawlessly. YouTuber, DooM Clan, took enemies out in three to four accurate shots.

10 Worst – Did We Really Need The Machine Pistol

So the assault rifles and submachine guns seem to dominate the multiplayer show, and it would be nice to have a secondary weapon that can compliment these guns and catch enemies off guard. Unfortunately, the machine pistol may not be the one. This gun just does not get it done. It is for close range kills, but the damage is not enough to finish off enemies quickly which in turn puts players in a dangerous situation to get killed themselves. The fire rate is decent, but the range and damage leave more than to be desired. If you find yourself playing with this weapon, you have to ensure that your accuracy is on point, because a close-range miss can mean the end of you.

9 Best – Hedge Your Bets On The Lee Enfield

Weapon alterations are helpful, they are there to make a great gun excellent or improve upon a more mediocre weapon. However, there is something to be said for a gun that may not need it. The Lee Enfield is a sniper rifle that deals high damage, and has a double-sized clip in relation to the other sniper rifles in the class. However, its claim to fame is that it is the sniper rifle with the fastest rate of fire without needing an additional attachment for it. The sniper rifles are very similar in performance, so any type of differentiating feature for any of the guns should make someone take notice. Nine times out of ten if you are sniping you are in a set location, so you will need large ammunition capacity to stay alert to threats around you. Give the Lee Enfield a try if you are a dominating sniper.

8 Worst – Too Much Grease Is Not Always Good…

The Grease Gun is an average submachine gun, and while it is decent across the board, it is missing some key elements of an effective gun. The average damage and fire rate make this a gun that is difficult for getting kills with. It will damage enemies but will likely not put them away. Now, if you are a COD beast, you can probably make it work for you, but for the rest of us, we need a gun that can fill in the blanks. Again, the in-game information on each weapon cannot entirely be trusted for you to gain the whole story on a gun, but early playthroughs have shown that this gun takes a little longer to take out enemies. This may not seem like a huge deal, but the difference between you owning a game and getting obliterated are seconds.

7 Best - If You Like Camping…Try Out The Karabin

Okay, so the Lee Enfield may not be your flavor for whatever reason. So what other options do you have? Take a look at the Karabin sniper rifle. Again, most of the rifles perform in a similar fashion, but the Karabin has a feature that may peak your interest. Even though the in-game menu shows that this gun is average in damage and range, it has semi-automatic capabilities which make it easy to follow up on a previous shot to take someone out. This is a perfect quality for a sniper rifle, where most may get you one solid, powerful shot, this one allows you to keep doing work. Its power will likely get you a kill in two or three shots so have at it!

6 Worst – Skip The Bren

The Bren is a light machine gun rifle, but it has such a low firing rate that it is almost obsolete in COD: WWII. Players almost have to aim perfectly to get a kill, but the amount of time it takes to line this up in a multiplayer situation spells doom for players. Also, the damage is not high enough to make up for the aiming. There has been a lot of complaints about the light machine guns in COD: WWII. A few of them were dominant in the Beta, but they have been toned down for the final version of the game. Therefore, there are not many that will make a significant impact in fast-paced multiplayer situations. With a low fire rate and average damage, you will have to be perfect to get some fast kills. When does perfection ever happen in a multiplayer situation?

5 Best – One Of The Most Underestimated Shotguns In The Game

This entry reiterates the need for players to differentiate themselves from the masses. Because of the way it looks, everyone is probably going to go for the Sawed-Off Shotgun. However, you will throw them for a loop when you blow them away with the underestimated Toggle Action Shotgun. This gun puts in major work. In a close-range and even mid-range situation, you will be blowing people away with one kill, and at worst it may take an extra bullet to take enemies down if your aim is off by a little. This is a powerful gun that definitely deserves a try. The recoil seems to be balanced, and the damage is no joke. Set yourself apart from the crowd with a little Toggle Action.

4 Worst – Pass On The MG 15

The MG15 is a light machine gun. It looks cool, but this weapon will not get you rapid kills. Its recoil is a little too much to handle which throws off aim for this gun. This lack of accuracy coupled with low damage will cause players to spend too much time trying to take out enemies. The latter part of this YouTube video from the Beta showed how long it took to get a kill with this gun on solid aim. If you have an excellent spot to camp and can get a good view of someone, then this weapon could be useful, but we all know multiplayer requires you to be on the move. So, you may want to skip out on this particular gun.

3 Best – Drill The Competition With This Shotgun

The M30 Luftwaffe Drilling is a beast in taking down enemies. It is a double barrel shotgun that kicks butt and takes names all while making you look like Rambo. The damage on this gun almost ensures you will get a sure one-hit kill. Plus, honestly, who doesn’t look like a straight warrior with a shotgun, let alone a double barrel? Also, the last attachment that players can unlock is the Rifle bullet which allows gamers to put a rifle bullet in the third barrel to increase accuracy. So, you are a walking nightmare with this thing. This video shows a YouTuber taking enemies out in one kill. If shotguns are your weapon of choice, you should look into the M30 Luftwaffe Drilling.

2 Worst – More Like Type 50…

The Type 100 is a submachine gun. It has average stats all the way around, and sadly it shows. While it may be a bit more useful than the PPSH-41, it is not an elite weapon, and definitely, not one gamers can jump right into using in a multiplayer situation. A distracting amount of recoil for this gun ruins accuracy and makes it difficult to train this weapon on enemies for an extended amount of time. Again, as any COD player knows, you only have less than a second to put someone away, and this gun just won’t cut it. In this video, it takes this person almost five to six shots to take someone down. Unfortunately, this is not good enough. So look elsewhere for an effective submachine gun.

1 Best – This Might Be The Best SMG

What is the first thing everyone does when a new COD comes out? They try to find the “god gun,” the one weapon that is perfect in every way possible. No gun is going to be this for everyone, but one might come close. The MP40 is touted one of the best guns in the game. Players can pick it up after the getting into the prestige class. Some gamers have remarked that they do not need attachments because the damage and speed of this gun is fantastic. It takes out enemies insanely fast and seems to have virtually no recoil. The submachine gun category in COD: WWII is not the strongest, so the MP40 is significant for those who like to play with these types of guns.
