Call of Duty: Warzone is an ever changing experience. Players are tasked to constantly find new ways to make it to the top – and equipment matters. With the consistent onslaught of massive updates Warzone employs, players have experienced shifts in the effectiveness of various weaponry. Recently, the Grau assault rifle received a bit of a nerf.

The extremely popular, fan-favorite assault rifle received an increase recoil. The nerf is there, sure, but it is relatively negligible for more advanced players.

Many fans have expressed concern with this modest nerf, since it barely changes the flow of game. Likely, die-hard Grau players will still stick with the gun after adjusting to its new recoil pattern. The AR is attractive to players because it has high bullet velocity, low damage drop-off, and low recoil – making aiming a cinch. Nevertheless, some believe that the recoil nerf didn’t accomplish too much.

Many fans took to Reddit to address what truly changed. One Redditor, “ID970,” created an easy-to-follow chart to show players some useful data on the matter. This chart compares/contrasts the game’s ARs based on time-to-kill and range.

The main argument between players is whether or not this nerf was enough. On paper, it looks like a terrible rifle. In practice, however, the Grau is incredibly accessible and deceptively effective at eliminating foes. If Reddit is any indicator, the majority seems to feel that it simply makes the gun less broken, not useless. The Grau still remains one of the top ARs to use in a majority of game modes.

Taking more time to kill an enemy at long range has shifted the game only slightly. Based on the chart, the CR-56 AMAX has a distinct upper chest damage multiplier… but that’s only if you can control it. Its fast time-to-kill is entirely reliant on a player’s skill to shoot someone in the chest accurately. With a gun like the CR, that often isn’t the case.

The Kilo is similar to the Grau, but its full potential is lacking in the end, especially considering how the M13 can out perform the Kilo in certain situations anyways. The M4A1, on the other hand, will out-gun and out-play the Grau in many situations. As is normally the case, the AR’s effectiveness is heavily reliant on the skill of the player behind the weapon – its stats don’t tell the full picture.

This nerf does offer a slight change to gameplay, but nothing drastic has happened to player choice. Watching streamers and the upper echelon of players will show that not much has changed, at the end of the day. For casual players, this might act as an effective deterrent, but don’t expect to see the Grau disappear from meta anytime soon.
