Call of Duty: Warzone’s hilariously broken pre-game lobby bug that stopped players from killing one another has been fixed. The bug arrived with Season 4, and amidst everything else going on, it was initially thought that there was something up with Operator Captain Price’s finishing moves. People soon realized it was significantly more widespread than previously imagined.

In the above video, you can see the bug in startling clarity. The attacker’s screen captures them sneaking upon another player, unaware that something deadly was approaching. Then, the finishing move was executed perfectly, while a hail of gunfire rained down from a third party. Shortly thereafter, the finishing move animation completes with a gruesome knife swipe, and the victim jumped back to life. Obviously, another finishing move was the only solution here, and again, it was executed flawlessly. The victim bounced back to life, drawing considerable parallels to the classic “It’s just a flesh wound” joke from Monty Python.

Alas, this was not a clever Easter Egg. Instead, it was a peculiar bug that affected players one at a time. Players could all be killed once, and after that they were unstoppable. Well, not really unstoppable, as most of the people they engaged were also unstoppable, so within a few seconds of every lobby opening up, clusters of people completing finishing moves back to back would form. Despite the humor in these situations, the downside was that the kills didn’t count towards XP gain, the finishing moves didn’t seem to count, and if they had not been killed yet, players themselves could still be killed, even if they just used a finishing move on their attacker.

It appears as though Infinity Ward has quietly cleaned up this bug, with not more than a simple unannounced 200mb patch. This came a day ahead of the announced two-hour downtime scheduled for June 23rd. In gameplay testing, all Warzone lobbies appear as lethal as before Season Four, with the ability to kill and be killed as many times as possible. There still seems to be a 5 to 10-second window at the end of the pre-game lobby that halts all killing, but that has been consistent throughout the release of Warzone.

That’s enough mucking about, get back in the pre-game lobby and try it for yourself.
