Infinity Ward has delighted fans yet again this week by dropping a content patch that, among other things, brings fan-favorite map Hardhat to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Hardhat is a close quarters map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 set in New York City. The small size of the map offers unique and thrilling action when compared to the vast openness of Verdansk found in Warzone, offering players a fun way to level up pistols, shotguns, and SMGs.
For those not familiar with the map, it centers on a construction site. The map generally allows players to navigate around the edges of the map, with a central room that has an entrance on either side. From one side, there is only one way to approach the doors to the central room. From the other side, players can either approach via an open central pathway, or they can approach from a sewer tunnel. Predictably, significant pinch points are built into the map and result in fast-paced kill streaks and tide-turning battles.
Those familiar with the map will find things mostly as they remember. However, the map is stunningly bright and colorful compared to the prior Hardhat map. There are better colors, better lighting, and more intense detail when compared with the prior version. Below, we include an example of the map from Modern Warfare 3.
Something users will also experience is Nuke Town-esque kill streaks not always seen in the larger maps. A highly viable map for riot shield and melee kills around one corner, dual pistols on another, and if players are not under cover, a very high possibility of dealing with high-level killstreak gunships, missiles, and rockets. The map plays incredibly fast.
To satisfy player excitement for the new map, Infinity Ward has created a Hardhat 24/7 mode, which lets the map cycle only play Hardhat 24/7, while rotating through a variety of modes. In the video above, Hollow finds himself starting in the cranked gameplay mode, which requires players to kill another before the timer runs out in order to reset the timer. If unsuccessful, the player will explode. If successful, the timer resets and the player gets cranked again, resuming their hunt for another kill. This adds to the chaos of the mode and is a great fit for this map.
If you don’t have the base version of 2019’s Modern Warfare you will be unable to explore the map, so all those Warzone players looking for a reason to shell out money now have another one. Hardhat offers fast-paced play, quick unlocks, all of which transfer to your loadouts in Warzone.
