It’s that time again. Once more, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone players can now get a little more bang for their buck progression-wise, because the games’ next Double XP Weekend is now live.

Seasoned players know the drill by now, but for newcomers, they will now earn double the amount of experience they normally earn through gameplay. Also, not only is player XP doubled, weapon XP and Battle Pass tier progression is as well. With Season 4 set to end next week, this will no doubt be helpful for players still working to grind out this season’s Battle Pass.

The current Double XP Weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone will last until this Tuesday, August 4, the last day of Season 4. After that, players will have a whole new season and Battle Pass to take on, so they’ll want to make sure they earn as many of the current Pass’s high-tier rewards before time runs out.

Odds are the event will go off without a hitch, as most tend to do, but it’s always possible something could go amiss. Earlier this month, players reported that Modern Warfare’s first Double XP Weekend for July was bugged, resulting in players only receiving the regular amount of XP while they played. This led to some even accusing Activision of cheating them with a “fake” weekend, even if it was most likely unintentional.

It’s not the only time players have called the Double XP Weekends into question in recent times, though. A fan theory has gained traction among players, claiming Activision is throttling Battle Pass XP throughout the season, especially around Tier Sales. The gist of the accusations made so far suggest the publisher is intentionally making it harder for players to grind out the last few tiers of the Battle Pass through gameplay, effectively pressuring them to pay for those final tiers instead.

If true, then this means Double XP Weekends are basically just standard XP weekends disguised as a more generous giveaway thanks to the XP throttling. Of course, all of this is just fan speculation at the moment, so it remains to be seen how future seasons of Modern Warfare and Warzone might be affected.
