The Call of Duty League regular season wrapped up over the weekend with the Toronto Home Series. It was arguably the biggest event of the regular season as numerous playoff seedings were on the line. While most of the top teams heading into the 2020 season remained in the top four or five for its entirety, some teams ducked in and out of top contention while others surprised everyone by becoming a legitimate threat once the playoffs roll around.
One of the teams to beat heading into the season, the Atlanta FaZe secured the number one seed for the playoffs despite having winning two events this season. The Dallas Empire took the second seed while the biggest surprise of the season belongs to the Florida Mutineers who claimed third seed. Both Dallas and Florida were the only teams to win three events. The Chicago Huntsmen took fourth seed while the New York Subliners bounced back from a poor start to place themselves in fifth.
The London Royal Ravens, Toronto Ultra and Minnesota Røkkr round out the top eight and a spot in the winners round of the playoffs instead of the elimination round like the bottom four teams. Minnesota looked strong throughout the first half of the season but fell off hard towards the end. It will be interesting to see if they are able to bounce back.
Finally, OpTic Gaming Los Angeles, Paris Legion, Seattle Surge and Los Angeles Guerrillas round out the bottom four. They find themselves in the elimination bracket where it’s either win or go home for them. While the road to the championship will be long and tumultuous for these teams, anything can happen.
Though the Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire have the quickest path to the championship, the title of inaugural season champs really seems to be anyone’s for the taking. A lower seed could have a miracle run or a top five team can continue their dominance for the postseason. Once August 18th rolls around, this is going to be fun.
