Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has quickly become a victim of its own genius. The colorful, free-for-all knockout title released this week, to both the amazement and dismay of fans - amazement because it’s just that great to actually play, dismay because of the annoying server issues that have plagued the game since its August 4 launch.
The game’s devs have already had cause to extend apologies as a result of the many server complaints but the game continues to be a popular attraction on the gaming scene and it’s already been listed as a competitive title by Twitch, with a tournament now set.
Mediatonic should expect an eventful weekend for their game and will hopefully make the experience a bit better for players where the server issues are concerned. But if you’re perhaps hoping to avoid all of that, as well as the $19.99 fee, you could probably check out this Dreams version. Yep, someone’s already put in the work to recreate the game.
Ryanthepro2010, a Dreams community member, built a level of Fall Guys, which you could see in the video below. Said video was posted to YouTube by jiar300 and is appropriately named dollar Store fall Guys.
The Dreams recreation employs pretty much the same mechanics as the original game but the characters are slightly different; we’re probably using the word “slightly” loosely here. With lumpy pill-shaped bodies and arms reminiscent of those air dancers you’re likely to see outside of a car wash, the dollar store characters would hardly be mistaken for an authentic Fall Guy.
The gameplay seen above shows an entire level in which the pill/air dancer combination jump around a map bereft of all of the splendor of the Fall Guys’ spectacle and, as a player demonstrates by standing right beneath one, the vertical propellers won’t even touch you, aside of them stopping altogether at different points.
After crossing the finish line, a misspelled “Qualafied” pops up on your screen. It’s not a one-off either as it comes up again a few moments later when the losing players get dumped out.
Fall Guys is available from both the PlayStation Store and Steam for the aforementioned $19.99. If you got a PS4, you can try out the Dreams remake but if you also have a PS Plus subscription, the game’s yours for free and will be throughout the month of August.
As it turns out, Dreams isn’t the only place you could play an off-brand version of Fall Guys. A knockoff version called Fall Gang: KnockOut, is also available for iOS.
