Finding the maps for each region in Breath of the Wild’s version of Hyrule isn’t the same as it has been in the past. Here, you’ll need to find and activate the respective Sheikah Tower for the region, which will both give you a map as well as offering a fantastic view of your surroundings.
Some of these towers are much easier to find and activate than others, though. Some of them are so difficult you may find yourself wandering the region without a map frequently before you are strong enough to climb the tower. Here are all of those towers, and how to reach them.
15 Akkala
This tower is one of the most difficult to climb or even access in the first place. It can be found in the far south of the Akkala region, just north of Zora’s Domain and southeast from South Akkala Stable.
This tower is surrounded by Guardian Skywatcher drones, several high-level enemies, and the battlements of some castle ruins. It’s also covered in Malice, making it a hard climb. Revali’s Gale, a good stock of arrows, and some patience will be your best tools here.
14 Central
This tower is not too difficult to find. It stands out like a sore thumb on a pretty open plain in Hyrule Field. It can be spotted pretty easily from the Great Plateau, located due south of Hyrule Castle.
The issues with this tower come from the Guardians that surround it. You’ll have to move your away around each side of the tower while climbing, because there’s a Guardian located on each side of it. Consider taking those Guardians out first, but be careful!
13 Dueling Peaks
If one heads straight for Kakariko after leaving the Great Plateau, the Dueling Peaks Tower might be one of the first they encounter. Located just before these great mountainous peaks, this tower isn’t too hard to deal with. Just watch out for the enemy encampments near it, and make your way to the top.
12 Eldin
Want to save Vah Rudania and help the Gorons first? You’ll definitely want to activate Eldin Tower in the same region as Death Mountain. Find it due west from Akkala Tower and north of Lanayru Tower.
It’s fairly easy to climb the mountainous outcroppings of the region to get a good headstart on the tower. There is a nearby hot spring, as well, where you can replenish some health. Just watch out for the Guardian Stalker nearby.
11 Faron
This tower is one of the better ones to grab early, as the nearby forests contain a ton of Hearty Durians, which are arguably one of the best ingredients in the game.
Make your way through the Lake Region from the Great Plateau to find Faron Tower. It isn’t too hard to access or climb, but watch out for the frequent thunderstorms. It also doesn’t have a lot of those little balconies, so you’ll need some good stamina-restoring dishes.
10 Gerudo
When many veteran players think about the tower-climbing challenges, this one might come to mind. The challenge here is that this tower is insanely tall, almost jawdroppingly-so.
It can be found tucked away in the cliffs of the Gerudo Highlands, north of the desert. You’ll need to get crafty to climb this one, either with stamina-restoring dishes, some updrafts, or some patience. Start from the highest point of the mountains for the best headstart.
9 Great Plateau
Finding and climbing the Great Plateau Tower isn’t too hard. It’s actually required for the tutorial. The old man will want to meet you up there to begin the quest of earning the paraglider.
The only challenge you might face is running out of stamina, but it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Just climb!
8 Hateno
Another fairly easy tower is Hateno Tower, which, like the Dueling Peaks Tower, is probably one of the first you’ll encounter if you go in the direction the game tries to nudge you.
This tower is readily visible from Hateno Village, located west of Hateno itself and just inside the area past the Dueling Peaks. There are a ton of enemies around it, but you can avoid them by climbing the side of the hill. Watch out for the thorny vines — they can be burned away.
7 Hebra
You’ll need some warm clothes or spicy food because the temperature here is very low. There are also some ice crystals surrounding the tower, so melt them or use Revali’s Gale to fly over them.
To melt the crystals, you have a few options. Light a campfire near them, hold a hot weapon like a Fire Rod near them, or shoot them over and over with Fire Arrows.
6 Lake
One of the towers you can see from the Great Plateau is the Lake Tower, located just south of the large lake, Lake Hylia, that you can see from the starting area.
This tower is fairly straightforward. It’s surrounded by some cliffs and enemies. Either fight the enemies or climb the cliffs and jump toward the tower.
5 Lanayru
Lanayru Region contains the eastern edge of Hyrule Field, Vah Ruta, and Zora’s Domain. Atop Lanayru Tower, you’ll meet a helpful Zora that will initiate the quest to meet Prince Sidon and eventually rescue the Zora’s from the Divine Beast.
Lanayru Tower is located in almost the center of the entire region, west of Zora’s Domain. It can be reached from Kakariko by heading north and jumping from the surrounding hills. It’s surrounded by a few enemy encampments but is otherwise pretty straightforward to climb.
4 Ridgeland
Ridgeland Tower is definitely a challenging one to start climbing. The tower itself is not that hard to ascend, but getting to the base of it can be quite tricky. It’s surrounded by a large pool of water and a ton of electricity-wielding enemies that can zap you or the water itself, damaging you heavily either way. This is one you’ll have to brute force your way through — sneaking won’t work!
3 Tabantha
You’ll probably be doing a lot of paragliding in the Tabantha Region. It’s home to Rito Village and a ton of huge canyons and mountains with large windy updrafts that are a blast to soar across.
As such, it’s fitting that you’ll need a paraglider to make the region’s tower easier. This tower has a ton of Malice around it that can be cleared, and some large pillars you can jump from to get a headstart. Find it south of Rito Village.
2 Wastelands
It’s a bit confusing that the Gerudo Desert’s tower is not Gerudo Tower, but rather, this one — Wastelands Tower. As such, it will give you the map for the desert and the areas around Gerudo Town and Vah Naboris.
This one has a bit of platforming puzzle to get up to, as it’s surrounded by a harmful pit of gunk liquid. Several large pillars stand in the mud, and you can knock them over to create a domino effect. There are some magnetic boxes here you can put to use! Luckily, this tower is in the highlands to the west of the desert, so you don’t need to worry about the heat.
1 Woodland
This is one of the harder climbs, after you find it located behind Hyrule Castle and southeast of the Lost Woods.
The same instant-kill mud surrounds the base of this tower, as well as a ton of enemies that won’t hesitate to knock you into it. You’ll have to navigate across the large platforms in the mud and avoid or kill the enemies in your way. Watch out for the explosive barrels!
