The greatsword wielder Jaeyun has become Brawlhalla’s 50th character. He’s ready to battle and is available to play right now as part of the game’s Patch 4.03.

This new character with Asian descent and foreign language voice lines has traveled across the Old Kingdom and eventually found himself in Valhalla. He wields a new weapon type, the Greatsword, which he obtained from a king he protected. With it, players can enter into a “Bridge stance” that can then be followed by the “Closer stance,” which throws off players with various combo opportunities. This Greatsword variant won’t just be for Jaeyun though; it will be used with future fighters down the line. The weapon looks slower than other options, but it looks powerful.

Ubisoft mentioned that the 4.03 update also brings the Solidarity Emote. All the profits that are raised from it will go towards Campaign Zero, an activist campaign that is fighting for laws against police brutality in the United States. New achievements, such as getting to Level 5 with all 50 legends, have been added, and there are new daily missions too that revolve around the new Greatsword.

Jaeyun will also have multiple skins for purchase with in-game currency. The Hanbok has a cowboy aesthetic to it, Gilded Glory gives him an imperial soldier look, and the Death Jester has crazy yellow eyes and a jester costume.

Brawlhalla is a free-to-play platform fighting game, in the vein of the Super Smash Bros. series. It has had some crazy crossovers in the past with franchises like Rayman, Ben 10, Tomb Raider, Hellboy, and Steven Universe. Even a few WWE wrestlers have entered the ring, like The Rock and Asuka!

It may look like a simple game, but Brawlhalla has been a success for Ubisoft. Last year, the French publisher reported that over 20 million players have checked out the game with a staggering 800 million matches being played (via Shacknews). That number has very likely grown to over 1 billion as the developer, Blue Mammoth, expected the game to hit that milestone in May 2019.

With a large roster of 50 characters and more on the way, it seems like Brawlhalla has a bright future ahead of it. The game is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, mobile devices, and PC.
