A surprising entry has risen to the #2 spot in the UK sales charts, as Bravely Second: End Layer has seen in an explosion in popularity, thanks to a retailer getting rid of its Nintendo 3DS stock.

The days of the Nintendo 3DS were numbered when the Switch hit the marketplace, as the hybrid home/handheld system was superior in every way. The 3DS had a good run, but the success of the Switch meant that the days of Streetpassing came to an end. The last killer exclusive to be released for the system was Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth in 2019 and the system has been an afterthought to Nintendo ever since.

It seems that there is more life in the 3DS library than anyone realized. According to Nintendo Life, the #2 game in the UK sales charts is Bravely Second: End Layer for the 3DS, which has jumped ahead of Switch exclusives like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ring Fit Adventure. The only thing keeping Bravely Second off the top spot is The Last of Us Part II.

The reason why Bravely Second has seen this surge of interest is due to a UK store called Argos, which is currently getting rid of all of its Nintendo 3DS games. Argos has been offering Bravely Second for £2.49, with the Deluxe Edition going for £3.99. Argos is also offering similar deals for the Fire Emblem and Yo-Kai Watch games on the system.

The Switch has yet to outsell the 3DS, but it’s clear that the system has had a much greater cultural impact than its handheld predecessor. The 3DS helped to keep Nintendo relevant during the Wii U years, but the Switch is seen as a genuine competitor to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Not everyone has the cash to buy a Switch, however, and the price of the 3DS has plummeted in recent years. The 3DS had an incredible library of games and the people who missed out the first time around now have access to a ton of cheap titles, so maybe the system isn’t quite as dead as everyone thought.
