Moon Studios’ critically acclaimed platformer series, Ori, will see physical releases for both titles later this year.

There are few pleasures in life that compare to holding a physical copy of your favorite game in your hands — giving presence to something once confined to the digital realm. Actually, there are few pleasures in life at all these days. Which is why news that both Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Ori and the Blind Forest are getting standard releases for Nintendo Switch couldn’t have come sooner.

During last week’s scaled-down Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Ori and the Will of the Wisps would be playable on the Nintendo Switch on September 17th. It took the game’s predecessor, Ori and the Blind Forest, close to four years to find a home in the Nintendo Store. But Moon Studios wasted no time with the second installment of its Metroidvania-style adventure series. Just over six months have passed since the game’s original release on Xbox One and PC.

In addition to Nintendo Switch playability, a collector’s edition of the series was released. The limited-release collection includes a sketchbook zine with concept art, soundtracks, exclusive artwork, and physical copies of both games. The edition comes packaged in a “transforming” display box and is available for Xbox, Switch, and PC for $149.99.

Once news began to spread that physical copies of the game were being sold as part of the collector’s set, fans began to wonder when they might see individual copies of the series’ titles released. Some of those fans took to Twitter to find out.

Ori the Game’s official Twitter account responded to one fan’s question, stating, “The standard physical editions will be available at select retailers later this year.”

It’s not yet clear exactly when physical editions of the games will be available for individual purchase, but — since there are only four months left in the year — we can safely assume that a physical release is not far off. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
