When it comes to the series’ array of weapon manufacturers, the Jakobs tend to consistently be a fan-favorite among gunslingers.
This tradition continues with Gearbox’s latest mainline entry, Borderlands 3, as the game offers a new range of awesome guns from the Old Western-style brand. Despite usually being minimal and lacking elemental features, they can be deceptively potent with their high damage output, sharp accuracy, and swift fire rates. These are the strongest, most efficient Borderlands 3 guns bearing the Jakobs brand.
10 The Duc
Despite the lack of elemental features, this little pistol packs quite a punch with its sticky explosive shots reminiscent of Explosive weapons from Borderlands 2.
The Torgue-like nature of its bullets and high damage output makes it a deceptively powerful pistol. This is especially the case for those good at landing criticals, and when paired with Beast Master FL4K’s Fade Away and Guerrillas in the Mist skill. This is because critical hits produce two ricochetting bullets that strike the nearest enemy.
While the accuracy could be better, the sticky bullets and explosive area-of-effect damage negate much of this.
9 Lucky 7
This lucky charm is exclusive to Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC; specifically coming most often from Scraptrap Prime in The Compactor.
This is both a potent pistol and handheld slot machine of sorts, as added bonus effects have a chance to kick in after each reload. The unreliable random-chance quirk keeps the weapon from notching a higher spot on the list. But when luck is on the side of its user, it can turn into a true powerhouse.
Still, its high magazine size, high fire rate, and solid damage output make it pretty solid even without the random augmentations.
8 Wedding Invitation
Foes won’t often be responding to this deadly invitation — as this gun from Jaboks is one more devastating sniper rifles in the game.
While the weapon is strong in its own right, sharp-shooters will especially be able to exploit it, as critical hits will feed the magazine and trigger explosions on the target. Not only this, but Cryo-inflicting shots will also ricochet to nearby targets. Accurate, powerful, and efficient, this always-incendiary rifle can truly be a beast.
It can be obtained by shooting 100 hearts in the thematically fitting Broken Hearts Day event.
7 King’s And Queen’s Call
While the pistols in question are technically separate, they’ll be lumped together here on account of their glaring similarities. The only real difference between these royal pistols is that the King’s Call deals Incendiary or Shock, while the Queen’s variant is laced with Cryo, Radiation, or Corrosive.
These things can tear through fleshy opponents with efficiency, with high damage output, elemental DPS, and ricocheting bullets. While reloads are usually frequent, critical hits will refill the magazine, negating this if you continue hitting your marks. This weapon thus becomes an absolute monster when exploiting FL4K’s Fade Away, which provides instant crits.
Fittingly, these Legendary pistols can be found most often from Tyreen the Destroyer on Pandora’s Destroyer’s Rift.
6 Maggie
One would expect a pistol named after the wife of Jakobs’ founder Montgomery to be solid — and the Maggie doesn’t disappoint.
This Old-West-style pistol is often dropped from the Zaford clan’s head honcho Mick Zaford in The Dust. While it looks rather basic, it’s deceptively potent, and can crank out loads of damage at once with a swift fire rate and reload speed.
Most critically, though, the Maggie spits out a whopping six projectiles per shot, making it one of the best non-elemental pistols in the game when it comes to DPS. With that said, it’s best exploited at medium range, as its pellet spread and average accuracy mean it won’t be super reliable. Essentially, it’s like a mini shotgun in terms of sheer power and spread.
5 Clairvoyance
Assault rifles may not always be the weapon of choice amongst fans, but this Legendary Jakobs sure makes the subgroup seem more appealing. Players will need the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC to secure one, as it can only be found from Kritchy in Cursehaven.
This rifle bears the Jakobs hallmark of a speedy fire rate, though it differentiates itself through its Cryo augmentation. In terms of sheer damage output, the Clairvoyance pumps out more damage than any other assault rifle in the game.
Other traits like sticky bombs and high critical damage boost this beast even further. Critical hits will even reflect to enemies nearby, making it a solid mob-clearing tool as well as a boss-melter. It can also be radically bumped up with customizable parts, as it can hold as much as 24 bullets per magazine. Its Cryo-only feature means its strength against shields is limited, though it thrives in most other circumstances.
4 One Pump Chump
This boomstick is a blast to use with its insane damage output and ability to unload without consuming ammo at times. The latter perk is really useful, given its slim magazine size of just one.
The One Pump Chump has many hallmarks of a typical potent shotty. At the same time, it bears traits akin to a powerful sniper, with its solid accuracy and a 3.5x scope that often comes with it. Also, despite not being specified on its card, critical hits will ricochet shots to nearby foes, making it suitable for sharp-shooting and for crowd control.
Not surprisingly, it’s the mutant known as One Punch who drops the weapon, located in Promethea’s Lectra City.
3 Bekah
The Legendary assault rifle from Borderlands 2 makes its return (in some form) in the third game. This time, it’s earned as a reward for notching all ten of Hammerlock’s Legendary Hunts.
This unique rifle yields projectiles that split into three bullets which coast horizontally towards targets; making it good for crowd-control and beefier foes at mid-range. Its ricocheting bullets further add to the damage pile-on that the Bekah produces, making it a force of nature.
2 Skullmasher
This sniper rifle lives up to its intimidating name with its piercing five-projectile shots and critical hit boosts. Fairly quick reload times and fire rates allow players to pummel foes from a (reasonable) distance with precision as well as speed. This also makes it quite versatile, doubling somewhat as a potent shotty at closer distances.
Aside from the hefty ammo consumption and lack of super long-range prowess, the Skullmasher shines as one of BL3’s best snipers.
The weapon is exclusive to the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC.
1 Hellwalker
This fiery shotgun can utterly unload when it comes to DPS thanks to its always-Incendiary feature, swift reload time, and insane damage. Assuming it’s used as a hip-firing weapon from close or mid-range, the Hellwalker blasts away its competition as one of the game’s most powerful weapons.
Fittingly, projectiles take on the spread of a devilish inverted pentagram when fired, which melt unarmored targets and puncture shields with ease.
