Just like with its predecessors, boss farming has become a popular practice in Borderlands 3, especially with those who yield loads of great loot. Such is the case with the beast known as The Seer, a respawnable boss who resides in the Director’s Cut DLC.

This boss can produce quite a bit of XP, along with the potential for some great, highly sought-after loot. He can also be reached multiple times fairly quickly compared to many bosses and larger foes. Naturally, this makes him a pretty popular target for farming.

Updated August 18th, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: Gearbox’s action-RPG epic continues to steam ahead, partly thanks to the plethora of content and plunder to be found on Pandara and beyond. Though much of Borderlands 3’s continuing momentum can be traced to the steady stream of content that continues to be churned out since its 2019 release, including the Director’s Cut add-on and more recently, the second Vault Card pack which unlocks an array of new goodies including legendary gear and skins.

With a higher level cap and even more loot and legendary gear added to the mix, farming bosses and major foes proves more tempting than ever. As such, it seemed like a good idea to revisit this guide for farming The Seer in BL3.

Loot Dropped From The Seer In BL3

Slaying this boss has the potential to award you some solid weapons and goodies. These all have roughly a 41 percent chance to drop, and he’s guaranteed to yield at least one of these specific drops. The items include:

  • Redeye Rocket Pod - a powerful Legendary rocket launcher that deals elemental Splash damage and increases its projectiles upon killing an enemy. Critical Mass - a Legendary Operative Class Mod that grants +58 percent Atlas weapon Critical Damage, +13 percent Hyperion Weapon Damage, and +13 percent Tediore weapon damage Death’s Blessing - a Legendary Siren Class Mod that grants +29 percent weapon magazine size, +39 percent Action Skill damage, +39 percent Action Skill cooldown rate Heat Exchanger - a Legendary Siren Class Mod that grants +13 percent Tediore weapon damage, +40 percent SMG damage, and -24 percent shield recharge delay Roll Reversal - a Legendary Beastmaster Class Mod that grants +24 percent weapon critical damage, +39 percent Action Skill cooldown rate, +39 percent Action Skill damage

Where To Find The Seer In BL3

The boss himself can be found on the Planet Nekrotafeyo, specifically in Scryer’s Crypt’s Desolation’s Edge. First, initiate a side mission called Mysteriouslier: Horror at Scryer’s Crypt, triggered by listening to Ava’s podcast after solving the previous mystery, Ghosts of Karass Canyon. Keep in mind, this boss is an addition and inclusion of the Director’s Cut DLC, so you will have to access this extra content to locate him.

This quest will see you exploring a vast tomb crawling with various creatures that go bump in the night, as the Vault Hunter seeks the source of some interplanetary murders. The first part involves reaching the two halves of Ensign Verbal, and staving off gaggles of invisible Revenants. Deeper into the vast crypts, you’ll be clashing with Guardians, including Heralds, Spectres, and Wraiths - oh my!

It can be a grind, though Ava will take some of the burden off, aiding you in combat by spraying bullets with her SMG, which will be coupled with bouts of Maya’s Phaselock ability.

This 30-40 minute mission ends with the chief Nekrotafeyo Guardian himself, The Seer. The game is thankfully generous enough to provide a couple of vending machines and a few chests just before dropping off to clash with the boss.

Strategies For Dominating The Seer In BL3

  • The Seer can be a tough boss to take out given his sheer power and liberal use of self-healing. One sound tactic during this chaotic battle is to focus your fire on the nearby Heralds, as they will heal the Seer with their red orbs. Other Guardians will spawn, but they should mostly be bypassed unless directly threatening you. These healing orbs can be shot at directly, though it’s usually easier to gun down the Heralds themselves. You’ll be able to pick out a Herald from its large staff, which it slams to the ground upon healing.

  • While the Heralds will respawn, focusing on them can make a big difference while pumping out the DPS on the Seer himself. Weapons that have ample spread and churn out bullets rapidly, SMGs primarily, are a good option in this scenario. Beyond this, it’s largely a matter of being a hard-to-hit target and keeping your distance as The Seer unloads with his various projectiles. Be sure to focus fire on the mid-to-upper region of the beast - basically at his protruding nose - to land criticals.

Farming The Seer In BL3

There are a couple of ways to swiftly and effectively farm this boss after he’s defeated. The first is to simply scurry to the perimeter of the arena and leap off the side. This will lead to death, but it’ll also cause The Seer to respawn, allowing for a near-instantaneous rematch even after he’s been defeated.

If you’re hesitant to put a dent into the mass amount of wealth you’ve accumulated, there is a slightly longer, yet more cost-effective means to reload this battle.

The second option is as follows:

  • You can fast-travel to the Scryer’s Crypt entrance and make the trek back the long way by pulling up the map and clicking on the Fast Travel icon. This will respawn the enemies as well, but you can also choose to bypass most of them while rushing ahead.

Using the Snowdrift Artifact and the Vanquisher SMG both prove especially handy for this route, as they’ll bump up slide speed. This will allow players to spam the slide move and shuffle forward more quickly.
