Borderlands 3 is getting a next-gen update this November. Gearbox’s famous looter-shooter will land on Xbox Series X/S on November 10, while PlayStation 5 owners will see it on either November 12 or 19 – depending on your region.

The next-gen version of Borderlands 3 offers more than just a graphical overhaul. You’ll be able to play it in 4K at 60fps on both the Series X and PlayStation 5, but you’ll also get a brand new four play local co-op mode. Gearbox has improved two-player splitscreen as well, letting you play the game in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. Best of all, the upgrade will be free to current-gen owners who pick up a next-gen console.

“Borderlands is a ground-breaking, record setting, critically acclaimed franchise where millions upon millions of gamers have experienced one-of-a-kind gameplay, mayhem, and fun across multiple generations of gaming technology,” said Randy Pitchford, Founder of Gearbox Entertainment. “With Borderlands 3 continuing to grow and launching this November on next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, there has never been a better time to jump in and join the fun.”

If you currently own Borderlands 3, you’ll be able to transfer your add-on content and save files directly to your new console. If you own a physical copy, however, you’ll need to have a next-gen console with a disc drive to take full advantage of all these features.

Current-gen platforms will also see an update in November to add vertical splitscreen co-op modes. Xbox One owners will get the update on November 10, while PS5 owners will follow on November 12.

Borderlands 3 continues to thrive, and it’s great to see a true next-gen version made available for free if you’re a current player. Right now, the game is holding its annual Bloody Harvest event – offering several exclusive items and giving players a spooky Halloween-themed world to explore.

Gearbox said that it’ll have more news about Borderlands 3 on October 29 during a special airing of The Borderlands Show. For more information be sure to tune in later this month, or head over to the official Borderlands 3 website.

Borderlands 3 will be available on launch day for PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S.
