With one of the biggest gun arsenal in a FPS, Borderlands 3 has put a heavy emphasis on its unique weapon mechanics. Having to think of even whackier and more eccentric ideas in order to keep the game fresh, the gun count only continues to grow as time goes by.
In this mass of weapons, some are bound to get left in the shadows no matter how worthwhile they may be. With some of the most unique and destructive weapons hidden in the road less traveled, new players need a guide in order to navigate the extensive library in order to find out the best suit for them.
10 Baby Maker
As long as players have an ammo regeneration process, the Baby Maker becomes both a great distraction technique while spawning multiple damage dealers. This pistol spawns 4 turrets that will either have legs or homing bullets to cover a wide area and deal suppressive damage.
If the gun is at full ammo and the turrets are thrown then it can eat a significant amount of ammo but increases the damage done. For players that are ammo conscious, throwing with an empty clip will make them a little less impactful while conserving bullets.
9 Phebert
While it’s not necessarily overlooked, the gun doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. Coming in all 5 elemental variants giving players a wide array of enemies on which to unleash its fury, the Phebert is one of the most versatile weapons out there.
Combining the shotgun and a sniper into 1 gun has been the dream of any RPG player throughout the decades, its projectile speed is also instantaneous to the target. Giving a heavy kickback when fired and taking up 2 ammo with every shot, players had better be sure of their aim.
8 The Alchemist
Dealing 10% of the weapon’s damage to the user, some players might be put off by their own weapon taking health. However, the 2 element sticky bullet it fires can easily take down enemy shields, dealing shock damage on impact and incendiary when they explode.
The recoil damage can be offset by other items. adding shield damage to the player if they have a Transformer. This weapon is also effective with most characters, not forcing a change of weapon or personnel to make the damage big.
7 Gatlin’ Gatling Gun
Another gun that will benefit from regenerating ammo, not that the magazine size can’t keep up. Its firing rate will increase the longer the gun’s trigger is held, dealing heavy damage with some serious area of effect.
The only thing to watch out for is the heavy kickback that comes with holding it down, making it increasingly more difficult to control as the firing rate increases. This makes it ideal for groups and will even regen some of the ammo loss on critical hits.
6 Skeksil
Another ammo eater that deals heavy damage, the Skeksil’s available in 3 elements that make it fairly versatile. It also operates in burst fire, shooting 1-3 projectiles at a time. Its relative anonymity comes from the fact that it can only be obtained from the Skrakk monster.
Its fire form is especially effective, able to clear mobs of enemies with its high damage and extra projectiles that get launched with every other shot. Due to its high ammo consumption, it would be beneficial to find some ammo regeneration in the build
5 The Horizon
One of the only shotguns that can do more damage with the player’s finger off the trigger, The Horizon will become an exploding singularity if shot once it’s been thrown. Even if the player gets distracted and isn’t able to shoot the gun, it will find an enemy to explode on.
It also comes with a voice that will be sure to put any player at ease, that is before dealing big corrosive damage upon impact. Never mind placing the shot correctly, the singularity does all the work by pulling enemies in before doing its damaging duty.
4 Wolfhound
While Wolfhounds don’t have a specific perk or flashy statistics to show off, this group of generic guns are underrated for their mechanics and feel. Passed over in an attempt to bag the biggest and baddest, these guns figured out the basics and executed them right.
Though not at legendary status, the SMG can perform on par with some of the best guns in the game. It also doesn’t take a specific farm for the player to get their hands on, falling on the few who are lucky enough to discover that it’s not always the quantity but the quality.
3 Shocking AAA
If the name didn’t give it away, this pistol deals strictly in shock damage. Firing in 3 round bursts with 2 projectiles, its bullets form the shape of an A. This barrage of bullets is sure to melt through enemies’ defenses with successive rounds and slice the health bar in no time.
One of the stand-out factors is its accuracy and high rate of fire, a combination in a pistol that’s rarely seen. Making it one of the easiest sources of critical hits, the shock damage and easily handled mechanics make it one of the most overlooked guns in the game.
2 Host
One of the most unique mechanics for a shotgun that comes in 5 different elemental variants, its bullets bounce up to 3 times while causing an explosion on each bounce. It’s definitely a weapon that takes some getting used to but once players do it can become a lethal annoyance.
Bouncing off walls or even other enemies, there’s no hiding from someone who’s acclimated to the Host’s talents. Placing the first shot is real key, determining how far or what gets hit by the jumping ammunition.
1 Faisor
An assault rifle that was made for the close range due to its shotgun under barrel, even containing a special effect that slows down the projectiles it fires. While that sounds like a deficit, it also happens to turn them into much more damage-dealing lasers.
Coming in all 5 elements also help the laser effect do the maximum damage possible, tailoring the gun to whatever enemy is weakest to it. Close quarters is best so enemies don’t simply move out of their path and waste the player’s ammo in the process.
