Blightbound, a dungeon crawler from Ronimo Games, will have an open beta running from July 24-26. Published by Devolver Digital, the game is due to be released by Steam Early Access next week, however, fans can try it out for free this weekend.

A multiplayer dungeon crawler, Blightbound entreats three heroes to leave the safety of their mountain refuge to confront the Blight, an evil fog that that covers the land below. The co-op action role-playing game combines brawler action with graphic novel style. After a band of legendary heroes defeats the Shadow Titan, a shattered sun plunges the world into darkness.

The Blight that flows from the crushed Shadow Titan can only be faced with powerful items left behind by the heroes’ ancient forbearers, the Aetheri. Grouped in the teams of three, the heroes – classified as warriors, assassins, or magi – will venture into dungeons, solve puzzles, and fight countless horrific enemies.

With breathtaking 2.5D visuals that merge hand-painted characters with real-time 3D models and lighting effects, Blightbound features over 20 unique heroes – each with a different skillset, a distinctive passive ability, and completely narrated story. There are also more than 100 unique items to loot and craft. Players can also recruit new artisans, fulfill bounties, or train heroes.

The dungeons include the creepy Gravemark, the harsh Underhold, or the perilous Blade’s Edge. The developers encourage players to band together and work as a team to make the tasks more manageable, especially during Early Access.

Heroes include Wastelander Triss, an assassin who seeks to avenge the death of her mentor; Tek’ka, Restorer of the Aetheri, a mage who has battled the Blight for years; Wastelander Creen, a warrior who joins his sister to dole out justice; Korrus The Blight Scribe, a mage who wishes to discover the mysteries of the Blight; Scarlet, an assassin who travels from a distant land to find the Aetheri’s legendary light weapon; and Sunwalker Kromn, a warrior descended from the Sunwalkers, a nomadic tribe that worshipped the sun.
