A new game was recently announced that’s almost too odd not to share. The game’s name is PsyHotel and its announcement trailer is incredibly bizarre. In PsyHotel, players take on the role of a hotel manager that plays host to a variety of psychopathic criminals. The player’s task is, apparently, to manage their hotel while also eliminating these criminals via an assortment of insane assassinations. Developer RG Crew plans to launch the game on PC in early 2021, with plans to bring it to Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X down the line.

Gameplay in PsyHotel seems to fall somewhere between Garry’s Mod, Hitman, Dead Rising, and Two Point Hospital, if that makes any sense whatsoever. The root of the problem is that the announcement trailer for PsyHotel doesn’t actually show any gameplay, instead, it’s a Garry’s Mod-esque cinematic. PsyHotel’s Steam profile calls its gameplay “unconventional” and “combining elements from several games.” Yet while the genre is said to be a simulation game, no simulation elements are shown in the trailer.

There are a few more specific gameplay elements mentioned on the Steam profile. Players can earn cash by selling items earned from hotel customers, for example. This cash can be used to expand the hotel, or used on “instruments of murder.” The trailer also hints at a Dead Rising-like crafting bench of sorts that allows players to make weapons, like a bat with nails in it. Traps can also be made, including bombs that can be hidden in objects. Players will be able to be creative.

That’s where the Hitman comparison comes into play, as killing hotel customers looks like it can be done in very creative ways, with the goal not only being to complete the assassination but to really have fun while doing it. When methods of killing in the trailer include a lightsaber and putting pineapple on pizza, there’s definitely a sense of humor at play.

It’s worth repeating that, while there are definitely a lot of nods to other games with assassinations in them, it’s still completely unclear what kind of game PsyHotel really is. According to Steam, RG Crew doesn’t have any other games out. In fact, another game named Departure was supposed to launch in March but missed launch with no update. It too has a Garry’s Mod-esque cinematic trailer and ambiguous gameplay details. It’s possible that PsyHotel is more of a gag than a game.
