As BioWare is currently busy with the next installments for the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, the studio has announced that fans shouldn’t expect any new materials from the team at the upcoming EA Play showcase.
Following Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’s successful launch several months ago, many fans were hoping to see more about the upcoming BioWare projects. Sadly, this isn’t happening as soon as you may expect. Despite Mass Effect 5 being announced last December with only a brief teaser, and Dragon Age 4 also receiving a short video at the same time, it looks like we are going to wait at least till the end of the year to get fresh insights at the beloved franchises again.
BioWare made the announcement on Twitter, stating the studio won’t be showing up for the EA Play Live show, scheduled for July 22. According to the team, the devs are hard at work creating the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect installments. In addition, the studio has some exciting stuff coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO this year.
EA Play Live will air at 10am PT/ 1pm ET on July 22. The company will also launch a series of streams under the EA Play Live Spotlight program prior to the main event. Each stream will focus on something specific, like The Future of First-Person Shooters, Independent Studios, and EA Sports products. During the main course, Battlefield 2042 is expected along with some new games, including the rumored Dead Space remake.
BioWare fans may also be interested to know that studio’s former general manager Casey Hudson, known for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Anthem, recently revealed he’s formed a new independent video game company called Humanoid Studios. According to Hudson, his studio will be “bringing innovation and artistry to players through an all-new IP.”
Hudson’s vacant spot at BioWare in the meantime was taken by industry veteran Gary McKay, who joined BioWare in January 2020. McKay will focus on the future vision for Dragon Age and Mass Effect at the studio.
