It’s lucky that Skyrim offers enough content and variety for almost endless playthroughs, because we’re not going to be hearing anything about The Elder Scrolls VI anytime soon.

There’s no need to tell anybody just how influential Skyrim has been and continues to be. Bethesda’s smash-hit has been ported to just about system capable of running it, striking a chord with gamers all around the world. With the sheer depth of the game’s world and the range of approaches players can take, it’s a uniquely personal RPG adventure.

The beloved game that spawned a thousand silly memes about taking arrows to the knee continues to bring players back to the magical realm of Skyrim. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen it all before, the opportunity to try a new setup (or a stealth archer yet again) is tough to pass up. Which is a good thing, because The Elder Scrolls VI clearly isn’t on the cards for some time yet.

Pete Hines of Bethesda recently reiterated that the company’s fresh new space adventure Starfield is coming first. We’d know more about that “someday,” we’re told, which in turn means that no news on the next Elder Scrolls is likely for years yet. As Hines put it for one hopeful Tweeter:

Clearly, then, we’re looking at two next-gen releases here.
