Persona 4 Golden is a perfectly good game without any mods, some might even say that it’s a perfect 10/10, but what’s the harm in installing some extra content? Since its release on Steam, the Persona 4 Golden modding community has worked diligently on all types of mods for the game.

From quick UI fixes and texture updates to entire expansions and skill packs, at the very least there’s going to be one mod that catches your attention. It’s kind of scary how dedicated the community is to a port of a game that isn’t even from the latest installment in the franchise. Imagine the possible mods if Persona 5 Royal got ported to PC.

9 Controller UI Overhaul

The Controller UI Overhaul mod is simple and does exactly as advertised. The mod replaces the controller UI with custom, higher-quality icons for different controller types. They’re not only a step-up from the basic and flat icons in P4G but they’re pleasant to look at in their own right and fit into the game’s aesthetic.

The mod supports icons for many different controllers, but you might have to make sure that the gamepad is configured first on Steam. Any button input issues are also something that will have to be fixed through Steam settings.

8 The Texture Pack Mods

There are quite a few texture pack mods in the community. From characters to food, the community provides an upgrade or change of pace to your P4G experience.

The Less Flat Characters mod updates the character models and textures of the overworld characters. For some, the characters might look off with the minor changes from the original models, but for others, it’s a welcome change and overall improvement.

Less Flat Stuff updates the models and textures of props around the game to something that isn’t so, well… flat. It’s still in development and takes some models from Persona 5 to replace the beloved 2D food in Persona 4.

Finally, Texture Fixes Pack improves the textures on the 3D models of the characters. There are also some tweaks to the costumes to make them more accurate to the character portraits.

7 The Yosuke Romance Mod

They’ve finally done it. For those out of the loop, there were interactions and voice recordings that were cut out of Persona 4 during development that hinted towards a previously possible romance option for Yosuke. This was a bummer for many fans, as there’s a lack of LGBTQ romance options in the franchise.

The Yosuke Romance mod finally adds that romance option for Yu Narukami. It edits ranks 6-10 of the Yosuke social link and changes the camping scene with Yosuke and Kanji. You can tweak which ranks and scenes to include with the mod.

6 Detailed Descriptions

Some mods add brand new content, others allow you to cheat, and a select few just make things easier through quality of life changes. The Detailed Descriptions mod falls into that last category. If you’re replaying Persona 4 Golden or are having trouble on your first playthrough, then this mod is worth installing.

It adds enhanced descriptions and info boxes for a variety of items. This includes skill cards, key items, gems, and seedlings. However, it goes beyond that and updates descriptions for other things. Social links, quests, and skill descriptions have also been updated to provide you with more information.

5 Useful Calendar

Useful Calendar is another quality of life mod that adds information to the calendar in your room. On a playthrough, you might only look at it once every month. This mod turns the calendar into something worth checking frequently, coming with a spoiler-free and complete version.

The calendar includes days that stores are restocked, when new jobs are available, and when new social links are accessible. In the complete version, it shows you the last day that you can complete a dungeon, when new quests are available, and every major character’s birthday.

4 Persona & Skills Expansion Pack

As one of the more ambitious mods in the community, the Persona & Skills Expansion Pack tries to expand and modernize the battle system of Persona 4 Golden. It ports additional personas and skills from Persona 3 and Persona 5 Royal.

All of the Personas from 3 that were cut from Persona 4 Golden have been restored without replacing any existing creatures. Their movesets and fusions have also been restored faithfully and balanced appropriately for Persona 4 Golden. Plus, HD textures have been applied to the models and the personas have upscaled art for portraits.

3 P4G Custom Sub Menu

The Custom Sub Menu mod adds a lot of customization options to your in-game sub-menu. It does more than just add an additional text option or tweak the text. It comes with quality of life features that allow for easier quick traveling, fast traveling to social link opportunities, allowing you to save anywhere, and giving you a mobile calendar.

In dungeons, you can call the fox, select previous floors for already completed dungeons, easily use a Goho-M, and organize your party. The mod also offers game over skips, the option to enable a save prompt every day, or the possibility to completely skip events in the story.

2 Persona 4 Rose Golden

Persona 4 Rose Golden is still in development but it’s one of the most ambitious mods in the community. Not only do they add a female protagonist for you to play with, but the creator of the mod, Wiccanon, goes the extra mile and makes it into an expansion. Yui Narukami (the name for the FEMC) comes with a new 3D model, voice lines, custom animations, and new dialogue options.

Wiccanon is planning to add a custom Velvet Room attendant, similar to the Persona 3 Portable FEMC’s changes. They’re also planning on adding male romance routes and a bisexual route. Plus, there’s a cool rose gold recolor of the menus in the works. This is definitely one to keep your eyes on.

1 Persona 4 Community Enhancement Pack

Yeah, so, imagine just about every mod on this list and then some more. That’s the Persona 4 Community Enhancement Pack. It’s an all-in-one collection of tools and mods from the Persona 4 Golden modding community. It includes over 40 mods that improve on the base game. This is a heartfelt expansion pack that showcases the best content from the community and their love for the game.

There are almost too many mods to list off but the package includes everything you could possibly want. It includes essential mods, fixes, overhauls, expansions, balancing mods, tweaks, new cutscenes, audio fixes and additions, new portraits, interface changes, menu changes, and even cheats.
