As revealed during the June 13, 2020 Future Games Show, Morbid: The Seven Acolytes is a gothic horror action RPG set in the gruesome isometric world of Mornia. Developed by indie studio Still Running (The Walking Vegetables, Zombie Kill of the Week), and published by Merge Games (Cloudpunk, Alex Kidd, Dwarfheim), Morbid is scheduled to be released later this year for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

In Morbid, you’ll take on the role of the last surviving Striver of Dibrom, tasked with freeing the kingdom of Mornia by defeating the Seven Acolytes, mighty beings now cursed and possessed by murderous gods called Gahars. Your destiny has trained you for this monumental duty, and now the time has come for you to end the Acolytes’ reign of terror.

The sinister Gahars have forced their perverse minds into the bodies of the Seven Acolytes, turning them into agents of chaos and horror. To defeat the Gahars, you’ll first have to slay their Acolyte hosts. Failure to do so means the Gahars will continue their malicious rule through their host Acolytes, bringing Mornia to total destruction.

As you take on the challenges across hostile Mornia, you’ll experience an adventure steeped in lore, and filled with bloody encounters. You’ll face many dangerous foes, including small- and large-scale boss fights in a variety of risky environments.

However, as the saying goes, the greater the risks, the greater the rewards. With each encounter, your Striver will earn upgrades by way of perks, runes, and a wealth of loot. Morbid will include over twenty-five unique melee weapons (axes, maces, spears, swords), along with pistols, shotguns, and rifles.

As seen in the announcement trailer, Morbid features obvious inspiration from such games as Zelda, Diablo, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls. You can get yourself locked into the news feed for Morbid: The Seven Acolytes by joining the Merge Discord, and by Wish listing the game on Steam.
