Beat Saber has been wildly successful since first launching in 2018. It’s one of the most popular VR games across all available platforms, and this week it has officially crossed the 4 million sales threshold. On top of that, over 40 million songs have been sold from paid music packs.

While the music and rhythm genre has stalled on traditional consoles, Beat Saber has kept it alive with VR. Developed by Beat Games, the iconic saber-slashing title is available on Steam, the Oculus Store, and the PlayStation Store – giving owners of practically any VR headset access to the fun. That widespread access – combined with its enthralling gameplay – has turned it into one of the most successful VR games of all time. To date, the title has raked in an estimated $180 million in revenue.

“Since our release in 2018, we’re excited to announce that Beat Saber has sold over 4 million copies and over 40 million songs from paid music packs,” wrote the Beat Saber team. “We’re speechless, this is such a huge milestone for us, but this is just beginning.”

Beat Saber has stayed relevant over the years by releasing new music packs on a regular basis. Many of these included hit tracks from bands such as Green Day and Linkin Park, bringing a much-needed rock presence to the usual assortment of electronic and dance music.

Beyond regular music pack expansions, Beat Saber also added a new multiplayer mode in October. This lets you play iconic tracks with friends around the globe, giving players a reason to goad their friends into buying the game.

Last year the game crossed the two million units sold threshold – taking about two years to achieve the goal. Now, it’s hit the next two million – for a cumulative 4 million – in less than a year. Beat Games teased that “this is just the beginning” for Beat Saber, although no plans have been revealed.

Beat Saber is available on nearly all VR headsets for just $29.99.
