The new ASUS ROG Phone 3 is hoping to set a new standard for mobile gaming devices. With a 6.59-inch OLED HDR color-calibrated screen that includes a 144Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset with 5G support and can be configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 ROM storage.

The key to the ROG Phone 3, aside from its enormous 6,000mAh battery, is its gaming features. A side-mounted USB-C port allows gamers to comfortably play in landscape mode while charging. The phone also features the patented ultrasonic AirTrigger pressure-sensitive touch sensors around the edges that deliver the feel of a real controller. In addition, ASUS enables gamers to customize the control scheme and map in-game commands, like reloading weapons, by shaking the phone.

The ROG Phone 3, which will be compatible with Google Stadia at launch, will also have an array of accessories available for purchase, including a TwinView Dock 3 that gives gamers an additional display in order to multitask, and a mobile desktop dock that allows players to dock the phone and use it with a keyboard and mouse.

There will more accessories available later this year, such as the ROG Strix XG16, a 15.6-inch portable gaming monitor with an IPS panel and a 144Hz refresh rate, the ROG Cetra RGB, in-ear gaming headphones with active noise cancellation and USB-C connectivity, and the ROG Falchion, a wireless mechanical keyboard with a customizable touch panel with 400 hours of battery life.

ASUS has also included a low-voltage charging mode and superior heat regulation to ensure that the ROG Phone 3 battery doesn’t degrade with heavy use and multiple charging cycles, like other smartphones might. Weighing an astounding 0.53-pounds, the ROG Phone 3, which clearly isn’t intended for those looking to simply check their email and Instagram, will be available in the US in September. Although the company has yet to announce a price point, its precursor was $899.99, so the new model is expected to near $1,000.
