Asterix & Obelix XXL - originally released all the way back in 2003 for PlayStation 2 - is getting its very own remastered version. So those of you out there who have been praying for this day- rejoice!
A few days ago, French publisher Microids announced the imminent release of a spruced-up edition of the action-adventure game Asterix & Obelix XXL. The game is an adaptation of the famous French comic Asterix by René Goscinny, originally published in 1959. The franchise is still very much alive and kicking, evidently, especially now with this upcoming remaster - or “romaster” (because Rome) - on the way.
Asterix and Obelix XXL follows the adventures of - you guessed it - Asterix and Obelix, who are two Gaulish warriors living it up in the year 50 BC. After hunting some boars, they return to their village only to find it in flames and abandoned by their fellow villagers. Turns out it was those dang Romans again, and now Asterix, Obelix, and their trusty hound Idefix must set off to locate the missing villagers who are being held prisoner by said Romans.
This of course takes the crew across the world to explore the likes of Rome, Greece, and Egypt. There are adventures to be had, puzzles to be solved, and plenty of Romans to uppercut!
The romaster - in development by Osome Studio - will be bringing enhanced graphics and animations as well as two new game modes to the party. You’ll also have the option to switch between the remastered visuals and those of the original game, if you’re having regrets about ever having dared bother with enhanced visuals in the first place. Ah yes and fear not, we have been reassured that the game’s original voices will be kept as-is. Thank heavens?
We haven’t been exposed to any footage of the updated game in action just yet. But we do know that Asterix & Obelix XXL Romastered will be launching on October 22nd, 2020, for PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
