Players will find out that searching for gear and equipment in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla won’t be the same, according to the development team.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will ditch the whole lootbox system, and won’t be incorporating a randomized loot system like the one in Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

“Every piece of gear is unique in the game and [can be] upgraded extensively […],” the narrative director explained. “It can be viable for quite a long time. So it’s quite a different approach than the previous games took.”

When players receive a piece of gear, they will be able to continuously upgrade it. This means players won’t have to constantly grind the same quests in hopes of getting something rare or unique out of them. Ultimately, Ubisoft has decided to eliminate the grind-heavy aspect of the game and replace it with something different.

With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla set to release some time during this holiday season for the PS4, PC, Xbox One, and next-generation consoles, fans can expect more information to be shared soon.
